Little Diamond Island

The original is acrylic on canvas and is in a private collection in Maine.

I had always wanted to take photos of the sun coming up over Portland Harbor and the islands that pepper Casco Bay. A few years ago, my husband, Bob and I hopped on the Peaks Island ferry at around 5:15AM. We rode the ferry back and forth three times catching the light as it rose and cast painter’s palette of color on the land and water. As you leave the Peaks Island side of the ferry ride, you pass Big and Little Diamond islands. We have several friends with homes on Little Diamond so it is always a pleasure to see it from the vantage point of a boat. The casino is a historic building on the island that greets visitors as the Little Diamond Island ferry docks.
